2.7 Exploration
The Exploration module provides an interactive visual interface for navigating and analyzing the knowledge graph. After data has been processed through the Build operation, the user can explore the resulting nodes and Relationships directly in the graph database.
Exploration is organized into Sessions, allowing the user to maintain multiple independent views of the graph. Each session provides a canvas where nodes can be added, moved, and examined. Key features include:
- Search – Find nodes by entity type or specific property values with flexible matching options (any word, all words, exact phrase).
- Node Navigation – Add related nodes, adjust relational depth, isolate nodes, or resolve paths between selected nodes.
- Layout Options – Customize the visual arrangement of the graph with different layout algorithms and zoom controls.
Getting Started
Create a Session
Exploration sessions allow you to maintain independent views of the graph. Create a new session to begin exploring.
-
To start the Exploration, click the + symbol to add a new Session.

Search for Nodes
Find nodes in the knowledge graph using basic or advanced search.
Basic Search
-
Click the Search field to search for a Target Entity.

-
Add the Target Entity using the Add to session symbol.

-
Add another Target Entity to the canvas.

Advanced Search
Search with advanced filters to find specific nodes by entity type and property values.
-
Click Advanced search to search the graph database with advanced features.

-
Click the button on the right to open the advanced options.

-
Select the Target Entities to search for using advanced search.

-
Select a Target Entity from the dropdown.

-
Select a search matching option:
- Any of the words: The search results include nodes where at least one of the entered terms appears in any node property.
- All of the words: The search results include nodes where every entered term appears in any node property.
- Exact phrase: The search results include nodes where the entered terms appear together in the same order as an exact match in a node property.

-
Click the Search field to search for the value in the Target Entity.

-
Click Apply to confirm the search.

-
Add the node that contains the value to the canvas.

-
The node can then be viewed on the canvas.

Working with Nodes
Once nodes are added to the canvas, you can navigate, visualize, and manipulate them using various controls and actions.
Navigate the Canvas
Control how you view and interact with the graph canvas.
Move and Select Nodes:
-
To move a node, click it, hold it, and move it around the canvas.

-
Select multiple nodes by holding down Shift and clicking the nodes.

Zoom Controls:
-
Zoom in using the + symbol.

-
Zoom out using the - symbol. Alternatively, use the mouse wheel to zoom in and out.

Lock and Layout:
-
Press the Lock symbol to deactivate dragging nodes.

-
To open the layout options, press the Layout symbol.

-
Switch to another layout by selecting one of the available options.

-
To reset the graph, press the Reset symbol.

Display Node Properties
Control which properties are visible on nodes in the canvas.
-
To show more or less properties on a node, click the label to open the property selection dropdown.

-
Select the properties to show on the Target Entity from the dropdown.

-
The selected properties can then be shown on the Target Entity when zoomed into the canvas.

Node Actions
Perform operations on individual nodes to explore relationships and manage the canvas.
Access Node Actions:
-
Click a node to open the node actions panel.

-
Node actions are listed along with properties and their values.

Add Related Nodes
Expand the graph by adding nodes that are connected through relationships.
-
Click Add related to open the menu for adding related nodes.

-
Select related Target Entities for this node from the dropdown.

-
Adjust the Relational depth using the toggle to control how many relationship hops to include.

-
Click Add to existing graph to confirm the selection.

-
Related nodes are displayed on the canvas.

Create New Session
Transfer selected node(s) to a new session for focused exploration.
-
Click Create new session to transfer the selected node(s) to a new session.

-
The node is displayed in the new session.

Isolate Node
View a single node without any connections.
-
Click Isolate this node to isolate the node from the graph.

-
The isolated node is displayed without any other nodes.

Remove Node
Remove a node from the current session canvas.
-
Click Remove this node to remove the node from the canvas.

Resolve Path
Find and visualize the shortest path between two nodes.
-
Select two nodes by holding down Shift and clicking the nodes.

-
Press the Resolve button to resolve the path between the nodes.
