2.8 Projections
Projections provide reusable query definitions for accessing and retrieving data from the knowledge graph. After data has been processed through the Build operation, Projections allow the user to define Cypher queries that can be saved, versioned, and shared across the organization.
There are two types of Projections:
- Views – Return nodes and relationships from the graph, with results filtered by the Graph Access Layer based on user permissions.
- Functions – Can return any result type (including aggregations and counts) and require explicit permission grants via Graph Access Rules.
Projections support Parameters (prefixed with $) to make queries dynamic and reusable. They also feature full *
Versioning*, allowing the user to maintain draft versions for testing while keeping published versions stable for
production use.
Navigation

-
Click Functions to open functions.

-
Click Published to see published functions.

-

-
To delete a view or function from the navigation list, select it using the checkbox.

-
Click the Delete icon.

-
Confirm the deletion in the Delete pop-up.

Versioning
Projections support versioning, allowing the user to track changes and maintain multiple iterations of queries. Each projection can have multiple versions with different states.
Version States
Projections can exist in two states:
- Published: A stable, production-ready version of the projection that is available to all authorized users. Published versions are marked with a green "Published" label and include creation and publication dates.
- Draft: A work-in-progress version that allows the user to make changes without affecting the published projection. Draft versions are marked with an orange "Draft" label and can be edited, tested, and refined before publication.
Version Management
The Versions section displays all available versions of a projection in descending order (newest first). Each version entry shows:
- Version number (e.g., 2.0, 23.0, 22.0)
- Status (Published or Draft)
- Creation and publication dates (for published versions)
The user can have multiple draft versions while maintaining a published version, giving flexibility to experiment with different query implementations without disrupting active users.
Working with Parameters
-
Navigate to the Projections section from the sidebar and open a View or Function.

-
Click the Set a definition field.

-
Add the parameter with
$in the query. A new entry automatically appears in the parameter list where the user can set its value. Once all parameters are configured, the user can execute the View by clicking the Execute view button.
-
Click Save.

-
Click the Set value field to set a value for the parameter.

-
Click Execute view to execute the view. It should return the label where the parameter has the exact value from the parameter value field.

-
The node where the parameter value fits is displayed.

-
Click CY_Categories to open the data of the node.
