2.8.1 Build Step
A Build step runs a Build as part of a Workflow. It imports the Target Entities you choose into the staging layer and processes them into the knowledge graph, exactly like the standalone Build operation, but as an automated step that can run on a schedule.
Add a Build step from the canvas palette, then open it to configure which entities it processes and how.
Give the step a name
At the top of the step, set a title and, optionally, a description. These identify the step on the canvas.
Select entities
Choose the Target Entities this step builds:
- The Available list holds every Target Entity. Search it, then use the checkboxes (or Select all) to add entities.
- The Selected list shows the entities the step will build. Deselect all empties it.
A Build step needs at least one selected entity.

Configure parameters
Each selected entity gets a configuration card with the same Staging and Graph options as the standalone Build:
- Staging: the import mode (Insert, Update or PreservingMerge), which Data Import Configurations to import from, and whether to Clear staging or import Distinct rows.
- Graph: whether to Clear the entity's graph data and whether to Process the staged data into the graph.
Use Expand all and Collapse all to show or hide the cards, Add related to pull in entities connected by a relationship, and Bulk set parameters to apply the same settings to several entities at once.
Control when the step runs
Like every Workflow step, a Build step has:
- Enabled: whether the step runs. Turn it off to skip it without deleting it.
- Run if: All succeeded (run only if every preceding step succeeded) or All done (run once the preceding steps have finished, whatever their outcome).
Save or delete the step
Choose Save to keep the step's configuration. To remove it, open the step and choose Delete build step.
